Getting Started

I’ve been working IT for a while now. I thought that I would steadily get more and more immersed in technology. I tried. I built a PC, tried all the sites like ‘Over the Wire’ and ‘Try Hack Me’. I didn’t really enjoy them though. It’s a task, pushing to improve myself. I’m not spending hours learning to code or getting the next cert.

Instead I find myself wanting to work with my hands in my down time. Carve spoons, learn to spin linen, sharpen a blade to perfection, make cheeses. I don’t know if its a symptom of my job or my age. Aren’t old guys supposed to be obsessing over WWII history or something?

I realize the irony of turning to online media to write my thoughts. I hate journally though. I blank out when I try; instead I just jot down quotes I like. You can only write down so much of ‘A River Runs Through It’ before you’re just doing a handcopy of it though. This format….I can put pics up and my thoughts flow more typing. That could be known as Rambling I guess.

Im going to work on a dresser for my son. It needs a good sanding and some drawer bottoms were busting out. I noticed that that top warped upward at rhe front lip. Time to Google!

I removed the top piece and played it on a work bench. I covered it with a towel and soaked that with hot water. Then I laid a marble slab on it. I theory, this sounded perfect. In reality, I turned the entire top into a U.

I flipped the piece and repeated the process. It will take a lot more time and more weight at this point. I’ll write more when I figure out if Im fabricating a new top or not.
